The North Carolina Botanical Gardens has several events for you to enjoy this summer. Here are a couple of highlights of this outdoor oasis.

Save Our Pollinators is a fascinating look at the plight of the many insects that keep our flowering plants blooming. Many people do not realize the plight of the thousands of insects that keep plants thriving in our region. This program runs through October 15, and it is an eye-opening exhibit that people of all ages will enjoy.

Every Saturday during the month of August learn more about plants with their class on botany. This is an introductory course that teaches you the basics about botany, anatomy, and the physiology of all the greenery surrounding you.

Getting to the botanical gardens is a breeze. It is located down I-40 west in Chapel Hill at 100 Old Mason Farm Road.

Now that summer’s in full swing every week there’s dozens of events happening in Raleigh. Here’s five noteworthy Raleigh events that’ll take place near our The Trestles Apartments this July.

    On July 17th, Boutique Blowout is happening at the City Market. At this event near our Raleigh apartments, local stores will sell extra inventory at a discount.

  • From July 8 through July 26 you can catch the musical “Dreamgirls” at the Kennedy Theatre. Tickets are $27, and production takes place Wednesdays through Sundays.
  • For a fine dining experience don’t miss the Heirloom Tomato Wine Dinner on July 8 at Irregardless Cafe and Catering. It’s $60 per person, and you’ll get a four course meal, plus a chance to hear author Craig LeHoullier speak.
  • One free event is the Band of Oz concert on July 30 at the Commons of North Hills. It takes place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • At Museum Park you can watch a movie under the stars. On July 18 it’s “Selma,” and on July 24 it’s “The Theory of Everything.”

  • Everyone knows aloe is a “must have” for a sunburn. Try freezing aloe for even more cool soothing relief.

  • Pick up a pack of oil blotting rice paper sheets to soak up excess facial oil and perspiration.

Should you choose to stop by on July 28th, you could catch My Morning Jacket perform live. The band’s seventh full-length album, The Waterfall, is set for release this year. To celebrate their first album via Capitol Records, they invite fans to sing along at the amphitheater. The follow-up to Grammy nominated album Circuital, the indie rock band’s new album will feature songs like “Compound Fracture,” “Like a River” and “Spring (Among the Living)”.

Swimming is one way to escape brutal temperatures during the summertime, and when the pool is indoors, it can be even more refreshing. This summer, if you’re looking for things to do in Raleigh, head to the Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center. Here is what’s in store for you at this excellent city pool.

    The pool has entertaining features, including a lazy river, water vortex, three lap lanes, tot play area, three-story slide and an area for water volleyball and basketball.
