Adding more fruits and veggies to your diet is always a good idea, and it’s definitely worth it to go for seasonal produce from time to time. Why? In-season fruit and veggies are usually less expensive, better-tasting and packed with a higher concentration of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Plus, buying local in-season produce is a great way to support your community farmers.
At The Trestles Apartments, our residents love living locally to establishments like the Raleigh Farmers Market, less than a 20-minute drive away. Hitting a farmers market is also a great family-friendly activity and the perfect way to spend a gorgeous spring day in North Carolina.
Five Fruits and Vegetables That are in Season This April
It’s April! Go ahead: Grab your tote bags and stock up on these in-season fruits and veggies:
Can we say guacamole? Full of healthy fats, avocados are great for dips, soups, salads, or even as a spread on toast.
It doesn’t get more simple than asparagus roasted with olive oil, pepper, and salt, topped with a splash of fresh lemon juice.
Try this white veggie roasted, steamed, mashed, or “riced” for a delicious side dish. Cauliflower’s cruciferous cousin, broccoli, is also in season this month—and is equally delicious roasted or steamed.
Packed with Vitamin C and fiber, oranges are excellent on salads or even as a stand-alone snack.
This time of year, strawberries are definitely at their sweetest, juiciest and tastiest. Add to oatmeal or drizzle with balsamic vinegar.
